Creating imagery and storytelling through different mediums have always been a part of Aboriginal culture. Through petroglyphs, regalia to canoes; leaving a story, carrying a story has always been rooted in the way of life of the Aboriginal people. Today, contemporary Aboriginal artists use a variety of materials and techniques in painting. Many paintings carry stories inspired by teachings of the lands, waters, language and symbolism through traditional motifs. Aboriginal painters are not carrying the teachings of our ancestors through their imagery but continuing to leave the stories of our history today for the next generations to learn from.
